Another illustration from my next graphic novel. Any story set in the ancient Roman Empire wouldn’t be complete without an orgy—am I right?
For each illustration, my editor wanted to try a different approach to finish and coloring. With this one, I went straight from pencils to colors to enhance the gritty feeling of the story. I also forsook any sort of limited palette and just went for a basic complimentary color scheme with a single light source. Funtimes! By clicking on the images you can view the secrets of my process (read: you can see how I just play around in Photoshop til something looks right).
I’m interested to hear what you guys think the story in this image is. A hint: This image stars Helios, son of Cleopatra and brother of Selene.

Mera knits underwater—one of her lesser-known powers. (Aquaman #24, Nov-Dec 1965)
I don’t know if I’ve ever loved any outfit as much as I love that spacegirl outfit.
I wanna marry it.
